A Tarrant County woman is facing serious charges after being accused of medically abusing her daughter by subjecting her to unnecessary medical procedures and possibly soliciting public donations based on false claims.
Lisa Campbell-Goins, 56, was arrested on New Year’s Eve and is currently being held at the Tarrant County Jail on a bond of $150,000, according to inmate records.
Campbell-Goins has been charged with multiple offenses, including exploitation of a child, injury to a child, and unlawful restraint. The Tarrant County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the case centers around an unnecessary gastric feeding tube that was placed in her daughter, resembling some similarities to the now infamous Gypsy Rose-Blanchard case.
Rose-Blanchard was released from prison in December of 2023 after serving 8 years for involvement in her mother’s murder. Rose-Blanchard had allegedly experienced years of mental and physical abuse inflicted on her by her mother, who reportedly had a mental disorder known as Munchausen syndrome by proxy, a psychological disorder in which a caregiver intentionally causes or fabricates illnesses or diseases in a person under their care.
In severe cases, this behavior can lead to unnecessary and potentially harmful medical procedures. The mental health disorder is a form of child abuse and is considered a criminal offense when it directly endangers the child’s health, according to the National Library of Health.
Tarrant County authorities also suspect that Campbell-Goins may have raised money for her child’s medical treatments through online fundraising platforms like GoFundMe, according to Fox 4 KDFW, even though her daughter did not medically need the procedures.
While specific details about the daughter’s current medical condition have not been released, investigators are continuing to probe the case. They are focused on tracking any donated funds to support the medical treatments. Detective Michael Weber is asking anyone who contributed to Campbell-Goins’ fundraising efforts or who has other information about the case to contact him at 817-884-3749.
This case is the latest in a series of disturbing reports in Tarrant County.
Just weeks earlier, another mother, Denise Zamora, was arrested on similar charges involving medical abuse of a child. Authorities say Zamora falsely claimed her daughter had serious health conditions, which led to the child undergoing invasive procedures, also including the placement of a feeding tube. Zamora faces nine felony charges related to the abuse.
