A man who opened fire Wednesday afternoon in a crowded Walmart parking lot on Forest Lane, grazing two women with gunfire, was later found dead in his car from a self-inflicted gunshot wound, Dallas police said.
The shooting occurred shortly after 3:20 p.m. at the store in the 9300 block of Forest Lane near Abrams Road.
Police said the man followed his romantic partner to the lot and shot her and a female bystander before taking his own life inside a black sedan. An off-duty officer discovered the body.
Both victims were transported to a local hospital and are in stable condition, according to Dallas Fire-Rescue.
Witness Tevar Watson told reporters he was parked next to the gunman’s vehicle when the attack began.
“I’m looking in the rearview and I could see her face,” Watson said, WFAA reported. “She was, I don’t know what word to use, but she was frantic. And she started running.”
Watson said he and several Walmart employees rushed to help the wounded woman.
“There was a lot of blood. A lot of blood,” he said, per WFAA. “But she was talking.”
Another witness, Sirrano Keith Baldeo, watched the gunman chase the first victim between cars.
“He cornered her between two cars and then just started shooting, shooting, shooting, shooting,” Baldeo said, Fox 4 KDFW reported. “He was pushing the bullets. I mean, he was just pushing, pushing because he was really angry.”
After the gunfire, witnesses said the man ran back to his car. Moments later, they heard a final shot.
“As long as she makes it, I think I’m gonna be ok,” Watson said after learning both women are expected to survive, per Fox 4.
Dallas police recovered a firearm from the vehicle and have not released the identities of the shooter or the victims. Investigators described the incident as targeted.
