A man was taken into police custody on May 24 for his connection with the death of a Dallas street minister, according to an announcement by authorities on Wednesday.
Anthony Brown, 50, is accused of fatally shooting 38-year-old Karl Arthur Hollins Jr.
After receiving a shooting call, officers arrived at the 3400 block of Harmon Street in Dallas around 7:02 p.m., where they discovered Hollins lying in the street with a gunshot wound. He was working a security detail at the location.
Dallas Fire-Rescue transported Hollins to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Brown faces charges of murder and a probation violation. He remains in the Dallas County jail on a $250,000 bond. It is unclear when he will appear in court.
WFAA spoke with Hollins’ family in late April following his death.
“He was 38 years old, my only son,” Karl Hollins Sr. said. “Everybody loved my son.”
“I didn’t see my son get into any fights with nobody,” he said. “Y’all took my baby.”
Hollins was recognized in his neighborhood as a street minister who enjoyed serving others.
“He died doing what he believed in, helping people,” Hollins Sr. added. “My baby was a good baby. He’s a good kid.”
Hollins Sr. said his son, a father of six, obtained his license to do prison ministry and often went to crime-ridden areas in Texas to teach others about God.
“What can I say? He was a very powerful man of God,” said Pastor Eric Garnett, who began street ministry with Hollins during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“He would tell everybody to get in this square and make a circle. He wanted the people that was on the streets. The violent people that nobody else didn’t want,” Garnett added.
