To Be Continued (TBC), a high-end luxury resale shop in Dallas, announced an increase in security measures after experiencing two burglaries in one week.
The store specializes in reselling high-end goods. Kenny Ortega, regional sales manager, said that the store tries to find new homes for old goods.
“We take customers’ high-end goods, and we sell them when they’re done with them, or maybe they bought a handbag they don’t want to use any longer. We go ahead and find a new home for those,” said Ortega, per NBC DFW.
To increase security, TBC adjusted its entry protocol. Patrons were already required to be buzzed in, but the store now asks for photo identification before allowing them entry.
“It will go into a store phone that never leaves a store location. It’ll be saved until the end of the month,” said Ortega, per NBC DFW. “At the same time though, we’re going to be rewarding everybody that comes in with a 50 dollar gift card off a $250 or more purchase by giving us our ID and getting used to the new normal at TBC.”
Ortega acknowledged that the photo ID requirement is not common practice among luxury resellers, but he believes it is becoming necessary.
“We’re living in a different climate right now. Everybody is vulnerable to these kind of things. We’re not above it. I don’t think anybody is,” he said, per NBC DFW.
The first incident occurred the afternoon of Monday, April 3, when two men entered the store and clipped the security wire on a $9,000 Chanel bag before leaving without paying, per NBC DFW.
The second incident occurred overnight on Friday, April 7, when two individuals broke into the back of the store, causing $5,000 worth of structural damage and stealing $500 worth of non-consigned goods after triggering the alarm.
TBC has reported the incident to the Dallas police, and Ortega is hoping the enhanced security measures will help prevent further such incidents, keeping customers and goods safe.
“This doesn’t happen at all luxury resellers but we have to make a difference,” he said, per NBC DFW.
The burglary occurred on West Lovers Lane in City District 14, which is led by Council Member Paul Ridley.
To date, there have been 154 burglaries committed in District 14 this year, according to the crime analytics dashboard run by the City of Dallas.
