A stolen vehicle investigation escalated into a SWAT response Wednesday after a Flock license plate reader alert led Frisco police to a suspect who later barricaded himself inside a residence, authorities said.

According to the Frisco Police Department, officers received an automated license plate reader alert at approximately 7:47 a.m. December 31 identifying a stolen vehicle near the intersection of Stonebrook Parkway and Dallas Parkway.

A Flock license plate reader alert is an automated notification generated when camera systems detect a vehicle matching a law-enforcement watch list, such as a reported stolen vehicle.

Officers located the vehicle and attempted a traffic stop, which resulted in a brief pursuit. The driver abandoned the vehicle and fled on foot in the 7100 block of Fieldstone Way. Police established a perimeter and deployed the department’s K9 Unit and Drone Unit while requesting air support from the Texas Department of Public Safety.

At approximately 10:25 a.m., officers responded to a residence in the 7100 block of Fieldstone Drive after receiving information that the suspect had barricaded himself inside his family’s home. Police said no other individuals were inside the residence. Frisco police activated SWAT and negotiators, who responded to the scene.

The situation ended at approximately 12:34 p.m. when the suspect, identified as 42-year-old Nima Ghani, was taken into custody without incident.

Ghani faces multiple charges, including Unauthorized Use of a Vehicle, a state jail felony; Evading Arrest or Detention with a Vehicle, a third-degree felony; Possession of Drug Paraphernalia, a Class C misdemeanor; and Possession of a Controlled Substance in Penalty Group 1 or 1-B, a state jail felony.

Police said there is no further danger to the public. The investigation remains active.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Frisco Police Department at 972-292-6010 or submit an anonymous tip through Tip411 by texting FRISCOPD to 847411.
