A 28-year-old Aubrey man, Mitchell Joseph Allan, is facing charges of indecency with a child after being accused of sexual abuse while working as a basketball coach.
Authorities in Southlake reported on Friday that warrants for Allan’s arrest were issued on January 29, and he was taken into custody by Elm Ridge police on February 1. Allan is currently being held at the Denton County jail, facing two separate charges related to indecency with a child.
According to police, the accusations stem from incidents that allegedly took place while Allan was employed as a coach for a private basketball program in Southlake. However, police have withheld specific details about the nature of the alleged abuse, including whether the charges involve a single victim or multiple victims. The program Allan worked with has also not been publicly identified, and authorities have not disclosed how long he worked there, according to a report from Fox 4 KDFW.
However, authorities are urging any parents whose children may have interacted with Allan and who suspect abuse to come forward. Police are continuing to investigate, and no further details have been provided. Anyone with information on the case is asked to call Southlake Police at 817-748-8235.
Last week, Southlake police revealed that another North Texas coach had been arrested on charges of child sexual assault, per CBS.
Adrian Joseph Maher, 26, of Roanoke, a coach at a North Texas private water polo club, faces charges of aggravated sexual assault of a child, indecency with a child, and online solicitation of a minor, Southlake police announced last week. He was booked into the Keller jail and was later transferred to the Tarrant County jail.
Maher was terminated from his position after the allegations were made, but due to the victim’s age and the sensitive nature of the investigation, no further details about the case have been released.
Parents of children who interacted with Maher are encouraged to contact Detective Roberson at the Southlake Police Department at the same number listed above if abuse is suspected, as Maher’s investigation is also currently ongoing.
