Deputies from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office have arrested a man following a car crash that killed one person on April 23 at about 3:30 a.m.

Per NBC 5 News, officials arrested 23-year-old Luis Parra and charged him with ‘accident involving death,’ a second-degree felony.

According to an eyewitness account, drivers of a sedan and an SUV were exiting southbound Interstate 35E at Walton Walker. Traveling in the right lane, the sedan’s driver cut in front of the SUV, which was traveling in the left lane, to stay southbound on the interstate.

The sedan hit the SUV, causing it to crash head-on into a nearby metal guardrail before bursting into flames. The driver of the sedan, however, continued driving southbound on I-35E.

NBC reported that the witness followed the sedan and got an accurate description of the vehicle and its license plate before heading back to the scene of the accident.

Upon arrival at the scene, the witness met the police and gave them a description of the sedan.

Investigators with the Dallas County Sheriff’s Department Vehicle Crimes Unit were able to find the sedan, a red 2015 Nissan Altima, and subsequently arrest the vehicle’s driver. It is not clear if he has an attorney.

Following his arrest, investigators interviewed Parra, who told them he was headed home from Bucks Wild when the crash happened.

Parra also told investigators that he did not stop because he was scared to call for help due to a pending case he had and was not sure of the damage done to his vehicle.

According to the arrest affidavit, Parra had a prior arrest for DWI in August 2021. Authorities did not say if he had been drinking at the time of the April 23 crash.

Investigators have now obtained the registration of the SUV that caught fire. However, authorities have not confirmed the identity of the SUV’s driver.

The driver’s identity will be released once family members are notified.
