Dallas police recently identified a second suspect in June’s double homicide at a Northeast apartment, but the man remains at large and is being sought by police.
The investigation into the murders took a twist on Friday, August 5, when police identified a second suspect allegedly connected to the June murder of a couple. Police alleged Infant Johnson, 23, shot and killed the victims.
Authorities are requesting the public’s help in locating and arresting the suspect. Police said Johnson, wanted for capital murder, should be considered armed and dangerous. Dallas police described Johnson as a male who stands at about 5’11” and weighs approximately 150 pounds.
As reported by The Dallas Express, DPD officers responded to an apartment in the 6000 block of Ridgecrest Road on June 29 and found Iliannid Nunez Sandoval, 24, and David Deshawn Stewart, 27, shot dead. The couple’s two children, under the age of four, were also found at the apartment. Police said the children had been with their parents’ deceased bodies for some days before the discovery.
Dallas police arrested Quincy Edwards and booked him into the Dallas County Jail on July 21 in connection with the murder after a witness told investigators that the 19-year-old confided in them that he and two other individuals were at the apartment to rob the victims. The witness also claimed that Edwards shot Stewart, and one of the other robbers also fired a shot inside the apartment.
Dallas PD’s identification is the latest breakthrough since the couple’s murder. Prior to discovering the couple’s body, Dallas police officers had responded to the apartment on June 26 after a 911 caller reported a fight and gunshots coming from the home. However, responding officers left the apartment after they knocked and got no response.
Police were called back to the scene after a neighbor found the couple’s 3-year-old daughter alone outside on June 29 and heard the 8-month-old baby’s cries.
The officers’ decision to leave after that first disturbance call did not sit well with the victims’ families. “Gunshots were heard,” Sandoval’s sister-in-law Lizette Faz told CBS 11 News. “Why are you not going to check on whoever is inside that apartment?”
A cousin of one of the victims, whom CBS 11 identified as Emily, claimed the location was a deciding factor for the officers. “If they were in another type of neighborhood, a neighborhood with money, they would have,” Emily said.
A Dallas police spokesperson told CBS 11 in an email that the “officers cleared the call and went back into service” after finding no signs of anyone in the home or a disturbance.
Faz revealed that relatives were not concerned when they didn’t hear from the couple because they had been at a family gathering on the day gunshots rang out of the apartment.
