Gunfire erupted in a Walmart parking lot in Rowlett on Monday afternoon, prompting a swift response from police, who are investigating the incident as a targeted act between known individuals.
Despite bullets striking several vehicles, no injuries were reported, authorities said.
The shooting occurred in the 8000 block of Lakeview Parkway, a bustling shopping center with about a dozen stores, during peak hours. Video captured by Smash Da Topic showed shell casings scattered on the ground, evidence of the brief chaos.
“Preliminary findings indicate this was a targeted incident between known parties, not a random act,” the Rowlett Police Department stated in a social media update on Tuesday evening.
Officers secured the area and confirmed that there was no active shooter threat, although no arrests have been made as the investigation continues.
Lyndsey McGregor, who was nearby with her 13- and 7-year-old daughters, described the scene.
“Not only did it happen in a very, highly trafficked shopping center but during a really busy time, broad daylight, in the middle of everything,” she said, Fox 4 KDFW reported.
Hearing the shots, she and her children reacted with alarm.
“Us, me and my daughters, are looking out the window like ‘Oh my gosh, that was gunshots.’ … To be honest, immediately we all started praying.”
For McGregor, the moment left an emotional mark.
“I don’t know, it feels silly because everything’s O.K., but at that moment you don’t know,” she told Fox 4.
Police assured the public there is “no ongoing danger to the community” but did not provide further details.
The department is collaborating with surrounding law enforcement agencies on potential leads, though specifics remain undisclosed.
“Rather than risk sharing details we might later have to retract, we are providing this update now with facts we can confirm,” the update noted.
