A prisoner escaped Wednesday after he jumped from a laundry transport vehicle near Sylvan Avenue and Interstate 30 near the Bishop Arts District, according to a press release from the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office.
Carlos Duarte, 31, was working as a trusty, a prisoner given special responsibilities or privileges in return for good behavior, at the time. He made his escape wearing boxer shorts and no shirt.
Duarte is 5 feet 7 inches tall and has tattoos over his left eye and hand.
The sheriff’s office said Duarte is known to frequent both Garland and Irving.
The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office told The Dallas Express that Duarte was being held on two counts of possession of a controlled substance from March 4. He is now being charged with escape while arrested.
The prisoner was later located and taken back into custody, according to the sheriff’s office.
“Garland PD received a call of a subject at a bus stop acting erratic, when they arrived determined it was escapee Carlos Duarte and was placed under arrest at approximately 7 p.m.,” the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office told The Dallas Express in an email.
As of April 20, Dallas had seen more than 2,708 drug and narcotics violations year-to-date compared to 2,573 at the same time last year in 2022, according to the Dallas crime analytics dashboard. This represents roughly a 5% increase in drug and narcotics violations year over year.
