A woman accused of “revenge stabbing” a man in a Las Vegas-area hotel room relocated to Dallas, and Texas authorities say that they were not made aware of the move.
Since at least June 2022, Nika Nikoubin has been on house arrest in Texas after posting bond from a Las Vegas jail. Nikoubin is currently a student at The University of Texas at Dallas.
Nikoubin was arrested in Las Vegas for allegedly stabbing a male victim on March 5, 2022. She reportedly met the victim on a dating site called Plenty of Fish. The two apparently agreed to meet in person and booked a hotel room together.
Upon meeting, the two went to their hotel room and began to engage in sexual activities. At some point during the night, Nikoubin allegedly put a blindfold on her victim and proceeded to stab him in the neck, per 8 NewsNow.
Nikoubin reportedly told arresting officers that she wanted revenge for a 2020 drone strike that killed Iranian military leader Qasem Soleimani.
“I mean the U.S. killed Soleimani. Lots of blood spilled,” she said, as reported by 8 News Now. “So, I feel like, it’s fair that American blood be spilled.”
During a status hearing at Clark County District Court, a police detective at The University of Texas at Dallas said the department was previously unaware of Nikoubin’s pending criminal case.
“That has sparked immediate concerns for the safety of the campus along with the community,” Rod Bishop said. “We found out that no law enforcement agency knew that she was under house arrest in our city or attending the university out here.”
Bishop said that authorities only became aware of Nikoubin’s pending case after a reporter tried to interview her about her singing career. After the interview, the reporter looked up Nikoubin online and discovered the information.
According to the terms of her house arrest, as set by a judge in Henderson, Nevada, Nikoubin must adhere to a 6 p.m. curfew and can only leave home for work, school, medical appointments, or counseling, ABC News reported.
The judge described Nikoubin as a “danger to the community,” 8NewsNow reported.
Alanna Bondy, Nikoubin’s attorney, has said that her singing appearances are considered work and are not in violation of her house arrest order.
“Ms. Nikoubin does get paid for those events,” Bondy said, per 8 NewsNow. “That is part of her employment. In addition, she does work at a restaurant. She’s employed in both ways, but when she does attend these singing events she gets paid for them.”
Nikoubin has pleaded not guilty to the charges of attempted murder with a deadly weapon. Her trial is scheduled to take place in July.
