Dallas police are calling upon the public to help identify a vehicle and its driver who were involved in a deadly hit-and-run in Northeast Dallas in the early hours of Sunday morning in the 9900 block of Forest Lane.

Police described the vehicle as a black 2008–2012 Honda Accord that was missing a mirror. The wanted vehicle will have “extreme damage” to its body, passenger side, front lights, and windshield. Police said it might also have customizations that make a loud engine noise, like a racing exhaust.

Officers believe the incident victim stepped onto the road while on his phone when the speeding driver struck him. The collision sent the victim off the roadway and into a brick wall.

The police explained that the driver of the Honda Accord did not stop to help the pedestrian before leaving the scene, leaving the unnamed person dead from his injuries.

The Department of Transportation National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) estimated that 9,560 people died in car-related incidents in the first quarter of 2022, a 7% increase in fatalities compared to the same quarter in 2021. Hit-and-runs comprised about 21% of these fatalities.
