McKinney Police arrested a City of Dallas Police Department officer for driving while intoxicated over the Memorial Day weekend.
According to McKinney PD, dispatch received a call on Monday night from a Tom Thumb store located at 3001 Hardin Boulevard. The caller reported that a visibly intoxicated man was inside the store.
Witnesses reported seeing the man enter an SUV and drive off. Following their descriptions, McKinney PD quickly located the vehicle and, after a brief traffic stop, arrested Daniel Jamieson.
Jamieson, a 39-year-old senior corporal with the Dallas PD, was taken to Collin County jail. According to the Dallas Morning News, he was released on a $500 bond the following day, May 31.
Jamieson was first hired by Dallas PD in February 2018 when he joined the Tactical Operations Division. According to the department, Jamieson has been placed on administrative leave pending an investigation conducted by the Internal Affairs Division.
The state DWI laws give courts the option of suspending an operator’s driver’s license for six months or requiring an ignition interlock device to be installed in the recipient’s vehicle.
In a report released by California a few years ago, of the 12,000 officers or applicants for law enforcement positions in California who had been convicted, charged with, or suspected of a crime, over half were for DUIs or DUI-related incidents, according to The Mercury News.
Similarly, a study by two Bowling Green State University instructors in 2013 revealed that, of 6,724 arrests of law enforcement officers around the country, 12.5% were for DUIs, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette reported. In 66.1% of those cases, the arrests were made by separate law enforcement agencies, as was the case for Jamieson.
