Fort Worth police are seeking assistance in identifying a man who allegedly hit a woman in the face following a close encounter in traffic.
Around 10:30 a.m. on May 21, near the intersection of Crowley Road and Alta Mesa, a woman was reportedly punched in the jaw after she attempted to apologize to the passengers for cutting them off in traffic.
According to the alleged victim, her view of the road was momentarily blocked when a plate of food her daughter had brought into the car flew up in front of her face.
The purported victim was attempting to exit the congested street when she turned left in front of the suspect, who was driving with a female passenger in the front seat.
“So, at that time, I cut off a car, which was right there in front of me in the lane. I was trying to turn to avoid a collision, a head-on collision,” the woman, who asked to remain anonymous, told Fox 4.
She explained that the other vehicle followed her into the gas station parking lot, so she approached the passenger side of the car to apologize. According to her, she was assaulted by the male driver as she made her way back to her car.
“And then I turned, and I walked. And I get punched in the face [by the driver],” she recounted.
Surveillance footage from the gas station caught the incident, and authorities anticipate that it will help identify the man.
The woman’s 12-year-old daughter was present and watched the confrontation play out.
“My daughter’s got that trauma now,” she stated. “I’m going to try to seek help for her because she sees every guy now differently,” she said. “He was leaving, and all I heard was, ‘Learn how to drive, you stupid b****.'”
Jimmy Pollozani of the Fort Worth Police Department said the safest things motorists can do in a road-rage incident are to go to a well-lit area, call 911, and stay in their vehicle, away from the other driver.
