A woman allegedly claimed to be police before forcing her way into an 86-year-old Parker County man’s home, putting him in a chokehold and stealing $2,000, the Parker County Sheriff’s Office announced Saturday.

Deputies arrested Jacqueline Smith Johnson on July 20, four days after the reported home invasion. Investigator Katherine Buononato obtained a warrant alleging aggravated robbery of an elderly person, a first-degree felony. Deputies booked Johnson into the Parker County jail on a $50,000 bond, according to the sheriff’s office.

The break-in

The investigation began July 16 when the victim called 911 and reported that someone had broken into his central Parker County home and robbed him.

The man told investigators he heard someone pounding on his back door and announcing herself as “Police.” When he opened the door, the woman allegedly shined a strobing flashlight in his face and forced her way inside.

The victim said the woman demanded money and threatened that he would go to jail if he did not comply. She then allegedly struck him repeatedly in the arms and chest before placing him in a chokehold.

During the struggle, the man got a clear look at the intruder and recognized her as Johnson, someone he knew, according to investigators. Authorities have not publicly described their relationship.

Investigators said Johnson assaulted the man, took $2,000 in cash and fled. Buononato later located Johnson and arrested her without incident, the sheriff’s office said.

Sheriff Russ Authier praised Buononato’s quick response and investigation and described criminals who target elderly residents as the worst kind.

A first-degree felony allegation

Texas law classifies a robbery as aggravated when the accused causes bodily injury to another person or threatens that person with imminent bodily injury or death and the victim is 65 or older.

A conviction for aggravated robbery carries five to 99 years or life in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.

The sheriff’s office announced only the aggravated robbery allegation. It did not identify a separate charge related to Johnson’s alleged claim that she was police.
