The Denton Police Department has arrested a 24-year-old man for allegedly shooting a family member on Monday.

According to Denton police, officers responded to the 1500 block of Bolivar Street at 8:35 p.m. on May 9 after a 911 caller reported that someone had been shot.

Upon arrival, officers found an unresponsive woman lying on the floor and arrested 24-year-old Joseph Davis at the scene. Police said the victim had suffered an apparent gunshot wound to the head.

Officers rendered first aid to the victim before transporting her to a hospital, where she remained in critical condition. The victim, whose identity has not been revealed, died on the evening of May 10.

Denton police believe that Davis shot the victim during an argument. The 24-year-old is currently being held in the City of Denton Jail, with his bail set at $500,000.

The department said the victim’s identity and relation to the suspect will be released upon official identification from the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
