In a significant drug bust, Customs and Border Protection officers at the Pharr International Bridge in Texas intercepted a massive shipment of methamphetamine worth over $31 million.
The drugs, totaling 2,155 pounds, were concealed inside a cargo truck carrying serrano peppers.
The tractor-trailer from Mexico was selected for inspection at the Pharr port of entry on November 10. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers used non-intrusive inspection equipment, which led to the discovery of 1,859 packages of methamphetamine hidden in the shipment, Fox 4 reported.
The drugs were valued at $31,169,000, per the U.S. Customs and Border Protection’s press release.
“This is another example of the vigilance our officers maintain to prevent dangerous drugs from reaching our streets,” said Carlos Rodriguez, Port Director for the Hidalgo/Pharr/Anzalduas Port of Entry. The drugs were immediately seized, and the vehicle was confiscated.

A criminal investigation is now underway, led by special agents with Homeland Security Investigations. The incident marks another success for CBP officers in their ongoing efforts to combat drug trafficking at the U.S.-Mexico border.
The drugs, along with the vehicle, were handed over to federal authorities for further investigation. The seizure underscores the importance of continued vigilance at border crossings to keep dangerous substances from entering the U.S.
The discovery of this massive meth haul comes shortly after another significant drug seizure at the same border when CBP officers intercepted over $10 million worth of drugs hidden in a refrigerated trailer.
