The suspects in the killing of a teen on Grapevine Lake during Memorial Day weekend were illegal aliens, Attorney General Ken Paxton announced.
Daikerlyn Alejandra Gonzalez, who allegedly killed 18-year-old Ava Moore, and the man who “helped her flee the scene of the crime” were both illegal aliens, Paxton announced in a May 27 release.
“Ava Moore’s senseless death was caused by an illegal alien who should have never been in our country in the first place,” Paxton said in the release. “My heart breaks for Ava’s family and friends, and my prayers are with them as they face this tragedy.”
Moore was kayaking the evening of May 25 on Grapevine Lake when Gonzalez allegedly struck and killed her with a jet ski, as The Dallas Express previously reported. Gonzalez and a man then reportedly fled the scene, committing a hit-and-run against a vehicle in the process. The Grapevine Police Department and Texas Game Wardens asked for the public’s help identifying Gonzalez and announced her arrest on May 27.
The Texas attorney general’s Fugitive Apprehension Unit worked with Texas Parks and Wildlife, the Grapevine Police Department, the Dallas Police Department, the Texas Department of Public Safety, and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to find the suspects, according to the release. Ultimately, they “tracked down and arrested the illegal aliens connected to the crimes.”
“My office will continue to work with local, state, and national law enforcement partners to secure justice for Ava,” Paxton said in the release.
