The Dallas Police Department has issued a warrant for NFL player Von Miller for allegedly assaulting his pregnant girlfriend.
Police officers reportedly responded to a call around 11:45 a.m. on Wednesday near the 3100 block of North Harwood, but Miller was no longer at the high-rise apartment when officials arrived, according to The Dallas Morning News.
An arrest warrant affidavit obtained by WFAA states that officers found Miller’s girlfriend with “minor abrasions” on her left hand and bruising on her neck that is “consistent with applied pressure to the neck.”
The woman reportedly told police officers that she was six weeks pregnant, showing them a pregnancy test and screenshots from a conversation with Miller in which the couple discussed a future doctor’s appointment, per the DMN.
The affidavit states that Miller and his girlfriend engaged in an argument in their bedroom because she did not want to travel during her birthday, leading Miller to allegedly assault the victim.
Miller apparently got “visibly angry” and yelled at his girlfriend to “get out” of the apartment after she left the bedroom and slammed the door of the office, per WFAA.
The affidavit states that Miller’s girlfriend attempted to gather some of her items and leave the apartment, but he allegedly “began to shove and push her, all while telling her to leave from the unit,” according to WFAA.
The woman yelled, “Stop! I’m pregnant!” multiple times during the conflict, and the affidavit obtained by WFAA claims that Miller “began applying pressure around the [girlfriend’s] neck for 3 to 5 seconds before letting go.”
Miller then allegedly threw her phone and laptop on the floor and began to stomp on them.
While his girlfriend was attempting to pick the items up, the affidavit states, Miller “pulled her by her hair, ultimately pulling a chunk of hair out and causing her to fall to the ground,” per WFAA.
She then began to record the incident on her phone, and Miller allegedly pushed her onto the couch and put pressure on her neck with both hands.
The affidavit states that Miller’s girlfriend told him that she was going to call the police, and he then left the apartment, as reported by WFAA.
Miller is an NFL linebacker and currently a member of the Buffalo Bills. The team released a statement saying it was “made aware of an incident involving Von Miller.”
“We are in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment at this point,” the statement read, according to sportscaster Adam Schefter.
Miller is a DeSoto native and attended DeSoto High School before playing football at Texas A&M University while in college.
Following his college career, Miller was drafted second overall to the Denver Broncos, helping them win a Super Bowl in 2016. He was traded to the Los Angeles Rams in 2021, where he helped the franchise win a Super Bowl that same year. Following his run with the Rams, he signed with the Bills on a six-year contract worth $120 million in 2022.
Police said Miller could face charges of assaulting a pregnant person, which is a third-degree felony punishable by 2 to 10 years in prison and up to $10,000 in fines, according to the DMN.
