Mother’s Day Weekend, a time meant to be marked by families celebrating, was instead marred by strife and bloodshed.

Bystander Killed, Multiple People Shot on N. Masters Drive

Multiple people were shot Saturday evening, according to the Dallas Police Department.

Officers responded to a shooting call on May 13 at about 4:05 p.m. in the 2100 block of N. Masters Drive.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered four people had been shot at the location, according to a news release.

Following an investigation, detectives determined that two vehicles had gotten into a shootout with one another while driving eastbound on Bruton Road.

As a result of the exchange of gunfire, a stray bullet struck a bystander’s vehicle, hitting the occupant, who was later identified as 39-year-old Ana Moreno.

The four victims were transported to nearby local hospitals, police said.

Moreno, however, died from her injuries.

The other three gunshot victims, all male, remain in critical condition, police said. Police have not released any information about their identities.

There are no suspects in custody and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

The shooting took place in District 7, which is represented by Dallas City Council Member Adam Bazaldua.

Man Dead After Disturbance on Hoke Smith Drive

Dallas police are investigating a shooting on Sunday that left one person dead.

Police were called about a shooting that occurred in the early morning on May 14 at about 1:20 a.m., according to a news release.

Officers responded to the shooting call in the 1000 block of Hoke Smith Drive, located in District 4, which is represented by Dallas City Council Member Carolyn King Arnold.

After a preliminary investigation, officers discovered that 49-year-old Carlos Gonzalez had been shot.

Gonzalez was transported to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

Police suspect that 54-year-old Lonnie Holcombe shot Gonzalez.

Holcombe remained at the location and was taken into custody.

He has been charged with murder and is being held at the Dallas County jail on a bond of $250,000.

The investigation remains ongoing.

There have been 95 murders in Dallas this year, as of May 2, an increase of almost 22% over the same period last year, according to the Dallas crime analytics overview dashboard.

The dashboard has not been updated since May 2 due to the ransomware attack against the City of Dallas on May 3.
