When officers with the McKinney Police Department responded to a welfare check, they found a woman dead in a closet.

McKinney police responded to a welfare check near 5700 Broken Spur Drive around 6 p.m. on Friday, according to a press release. They found 40-year-old Kubra Zafer dead in a closet. Officers arrested her husband, 42-year-old Eslam Said Mohamed, who now faces a charge of murder.

Mohamed is currently in the Collin County Jail, facing a charge of murder. His bond is set at $1 million.

The Dallas Express reached out to a McKinney police spokesman, but he said he could not provide Mohamed’s motives at the time.

A family member in Dallas had requested a welfare check at the residence, after “relatives overseas” believed Mohamed may have been having a “medical emergency,” according to the release.

McKinney firefighters arrived before police and “forced entry” into the home. They found Mohamed on the living room couch with “minor injuries and visible blood on his hands.” When they asked about anyone else in the home, he indicated a “female in a closet.”

“Firefighters located a deceased adult female in the master bedroom closet with a stab wound to the neck, with a knife found nearby,” the release reads. Officials later identified her as Zafer, Mohamed’s wife.

Police arrested Mohamed, then brought him to Medical Center McKinney for treatment of the minor injuries. They later booked him into the county jail.

“This remains an active investigation,” the release reads.

Mohamed’s address is 5712 Broken Spur Drive in McKinney, according to court records.
