Authorities arrested Jasmin, who also goes by the name Reya Jasmin, after discovering 39-year-old Margaret Jasmin dead in the couple’s home on Saturday, May 18. Emergency personnel discovered Margaret with an apparent stab wound to the neck. An autopsy confirmed that the cause of death was sharp force trauma and ruled the manner of death as homicide.
David Jasmin was found at the scene with non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where he remains under police guard. He has been formally charged with one count of second-degree murder.
The New Hampshire Department of Justice press release refers to Jasmin by his self-declared name, but legal records confirm his name is David Mark Jasmin. Some media outlets have referred to Jasmin using female pronouns and as a “transgender” woman, but law enforcement officials have not verified any legal or biological change to his sex.
The motive for the killing remains under investigation. Jasmin will be arraigned once medically cleared and transferred to a correctional facility.
