A mother was indicted for allegedly stabbing three of her children to death and attempting to murder two more of her children in Italy, Texas, with a knife.
A grand jury served the 25-year-old suspect Shamaiya Hall five indictments on Wednesday. Three of the counts are for capital murder and two more counts for attempted capital murder. Hall could face life in prison without parole or the death penalty if convicted.
Hall allegedly murdered a 6-year-old boy and two 5-year-old twins, a boy and a girl. Additionally, two of Hall’s children, a 4-year-boy and a 13-month-old girl, were critically wounded during the alleged attack.
Ellis County District Attorney Ann Montgomery has filed her intent to seek the death penalty.
Hall’s sister was also arrested in 2021 for also stabbing her child (Hall’s niece) to death. Hall’s sister Troyshaye was found mentally incompetent to stand trial and sent to a mental facility.
Hall was arrested on March 3 near Stafford Elementary School in Italy, a small town of 2,000 people just south of Dallas, near I-35.
Hall allegedly stabbed her children during an unannounced CPS worker’s visit to see if Hall was having unsupervised visitation with her children. The children were placed under the guardianship of a relative.
Police were located at another home on the street when they received a dispatch to intervene. Police were able to respond and detain Hall quickly.
Police recovered several pieces of evidence, including a bloody knife blade, a stainless steel knife with blood on it, a black knife handle, and another stainless steel knife from a back bedroom.
Hall was arrested in 2017 for another knife crime, previously stabbing her murderous sister’s boyfriend and receiving a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Nearby Dallas has also seen an uptick in homicides. As of May 27, the City had experienced 112 homicides on the year, a roughly 10% increase when compared to the year before.
