A Mesquite-based Uber driver said the rideshare company suspended his account after he fired shots at three men who allegedly tried to rob him during an early morning ride over the weekend.
Christopher McIntosh said he picked up three passengers around 2:30 a.m. on Sunday, Fox 4 KDFW reported. McIntosh said the men initially requested a drop-off in a Mesquite neighborhood but then directed him to a different address. As he parked, one of the passengers put on a ski mask and pointed a gun at his head, per McIntosh.
McIntosh said he retrieved a firearm from his glove box and fired shots toward the suspects. Mesquite police responded to the scene at Lakefield Drive and Granada Drive, but have not located the suspects, WFAA reported. The department said its investigation remains ongoing.
McIntosh said Uber locked him out of his account after he reported the incident to the company.
In a statement to Fox 4, Uber said it had suspended the account while the matter is reviewed and noted that the company enforces a no-firearm policy for drivers and passengers.
“The reported details are terrifying, and we’re relieved the driver was unharmed. We have been in touch with the driver, and are supporting law enforcement with their investigation,” Uber said in a statement.
It is unclear whether McIntosh’s account will be reinstated.
