The FBI executed a search warrant Monday morning at the Texas home of a 20-year-old man accused of traveling from the state to throw a Molotov cocktail at the San Francisco residence of OpenAI CEO Sam Altman.

Daniel Moreno-Gama was charged in federal court with attempted damage and destruction of property by means of explosives and possession of an unregistered firearm, according to a criminal complaint. He is also facing multiple state felony charges, including attempted murder, in connection with the incident.

Agents gathered evidence at the home in Spring, a northern suburb of Houston, as part of the investigation into the attack that occurred early Friday morning. No one was injured when the device set the front gate of Altman’s house on fire, San Francisco police said.

Police said Moreno-Gama was arrested about an hour later outside OpenAI headquarters, where surveillance video captured him throwing a chair at the glass doors.

He was carrying a jug of kerosene and a lighter and told security he planned to burn the building down and kill anyone inside, authorities added.

Sources close to the investigation said Moreno-Gama was driven by anti-AI views and was carrying a manifesto described as a “three-part series.” The document included a list of other AI executives and investors along with their names and addresses, the sources said.

Court records show Moreno-Gama wrote that he “killed /attempted to kill” Victim-1 and stated, “Also, if I am going to advocate for others to kill and commit crimes, then I must lead by example and show that I am fully sincere in my message.”

Altman responded to the attack on his blog, posting a photo of his family and writing, “I love them more than anything,” and “normally we try to be pretty private, but in this case I am sharing a photo in the hopes that it might dissuade the next person from throwing a Molotov cocktail at our house, no matter what they think about me.”

In a separate incident over the weekend, two more people were arrested after reports of gunfire near Altman’s home, according to San Francisco police. An OpenAI spokesperson said that the event was unrelated to the Molotov cocktail attack and had no connection to Altman.

San Francisco Police Chief Derrick Lew said the department takes such crimes seriously.

“The SFPD takes crimes involving guns extremely seriously, and anyone committing acts like these will be arrested and prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law,” Lew said, per Fox News. “I want to thank our officers whose swift actions identified these suspects, took them into custody, and got dangerous weapons off our streets.”
