Dallas police announced a fatal shooting occurred in central Oak Cliff on Sunday evening.

At about 11 p.m. that night, officers responded to a shooting call at 145 West Ann Arbor Avenue. Upon arrival, they found 43-year-old Cordney Dawson, who had been shot.

Dallas Fire-Rescue transferred Dawson to a hospital. However, he later succumbed to his wounds.

Detectives determined that Dawson was making a purchase at a gas station when a person – believed to be male – got into his truck. When Dawson confronted the suspect, the suspect shot him and drove away in a dark-colored sedan, police said.

Police said that two other people were inside the vehicle the shooter got away in. On Tuesday, the department released surveillance footage from the store around the time of the incident on its Facebook page.

In the video, three men are seen being denied entry into the gas station. DPD stated that the man on the right, who is highlighted in the video, is a suspect in the capital murder.

The Dallas Police Department is requesting the public’s help in apprehending the suspect. Anyone with information about the shooting is urged to reach out to the department through Homicide Detective Jeffrey Loeb at [email protected].
