A 26-year-old man faces multiple charges after allegedly damaging windows and a vehicle at Vice President JD Vance’s residence in Cincinnati early Monday, authorities said.

William DeFoor was taken into custody shortly after U.S. Secret Service agents spotted him entering the property in the East Walnut Hills neighborhood on William Howard Taft Drive around 12:15 a.m., according to court records and an arrest report.

DeFoor is charged with one count each of obstructing official business, criminal damaging or endangering, criminal trespass, and vandalism.

The Secret Service observed DeFoor “damaging four of the victim’s residential windows and the victim’s vehicle” before detaining him, the arrest report states. Agents then called Cincinnati police for assistance after seeing someone “running eastbound,” a dispatcher said, Fox 19 Now reported.

Photos from local news outlets captured the broken windows at the home. A federal law enforcement official said investigators are examining whether the incident targeted Vance and his family, but they do not believe the suspect entered the house.

The Vance family was not in Ohio when the damage occurred shortly after midnight, a Secret Service spokesperson said, adding that they had already left town beforehand, according to a White House official.

The spokesperson, Anthony Guglielmi, described the detained individual as an adult male held “for causing property damage, including breaking windows on the exterior of a personal residence associated with Vance,” CNN reported.

“The U.S. Secret Service is coordinating with the Cincinnati Police Department and the U.S. Attorney’s Office as charging decisions are reviewed,” a Secret Service statement said.

The investigation remains ongoing.
