U.S. Marshals arrested a 30-year-old man on Thursday in the fatal stabbing of a woman at a North Dallas homeless encampment.
Joshua Schaeffer faces a murder charge in the death of 39-year-old Danielle Hollowell, who was found with a stab wound to the neck on Monday afternoon in the 14400 block of Preston Road.
Dallas Fire-Rescue personnel pronounced Hollowell dead at the scene after attempting lifesaving measures, The Dallas Express reported. The Dallas County Medical Examiner confirmed her identity on Thursday.
Witnesses told investigators that Schaeffer, also known as “Nate,” and Hollowell had been living together in a tent under a nearby bridge.
According to an arrest affidavit, Schaeffer became upset before entering the tent, with Hollowell following shortly after. Witnesses then heard sounds of a struggle inside. One saw Schaeffer run out holding a knife and flee on foot.
Multiple witnesses identified Schaeffer as the attacker, and two picked him from a photo lineup.
The U.S. Marshals North Texas Fugitive Task Force took Schaeffer into custody Thursday afternoon. He was booked into Dallas County Jail.
The investigation continues. Anyone with information should contact Detective Y. Perez at 469-849-3757 or via email at [email protected].
