A man was arrested Saturday on suspicion of drunk driving after he reportedly hit two people near Illinois Avenue in west Oak Cliff.

Police say the incident happened just before 12 a.m. on July 16 on South Walton Walker Boulevard. According to authorities, Jesus Espinoza allegedly drove onto the shoulder of the boulevard and hit a man and a woman.

The man was taken to a hospital and is in a non-life-threatening state. The woman, however, did not survive the incident. The woman, police say, was a stranded motorist, and the man had been trying to help her.

Police claimed Espinoza, 33, abandoned the two victims at the scene. However, a witness of the crash followed his vehicle and called authorities. Officers then went to his home to arrest him.

Investigators determined he was under the influence of alcohol when the crash happened.

Espinoza has been charged with intoxication manslaughter and intoxication assault. He was also charged with failing to stop and render aid.

No photo of Espinoza has been released at this time, nor have any further details on the case.

I’d love a follow-up to see if Mr. Espinoza was here illegally.
