A Denton woman has been charged with murder after allegedly telling police she drowned her husband.

Dora Alvarez Maldonado, 44, was arrested last Tuesday, August 16, according to a press release from the City of Denton.

Denton police responded to the 1700 block of Spencer Road just before 3 p.m. after a 911 caller reported seeing a woman holding a possibly deceased man’s body in a creek between Shady Oaks Drive and Spencer Road.

The man turned out to be Maldonado’s husband. Denton Fire Rescue pronounced him dead at the scene.

Maldonado initially told officers an “unknown male” was responsible for her husband’s drowning, police said.

Maldonado “later told detectives that this male did not exist, and she had drowned her husband,” the press release alleged.

Police arrested Maldonado and took her to the Denton city jail, where her bail was set at $500,000.

The identity of Maldonado’s husband has not been released pending official identification by the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.
