A Richardson Independent School District (RISD) teacher was arrested on Thursday after being accused of having an inappropriate relationship with a minor at a previous district.

Jason Delezen, a teacher at Richardson High School, was arrested by Texarkana Police on October 20 and charged with “improper relationship between an educator and a student.”

The arrest came in relation to an incident that allegedly occurred in 2019 while Delezen was employed as a teacher in Texarkana Independent School District (TISD), Richardson school officials told WFAA.

They stated that Delezen’s arrest had nothing to do with Richardson High School or its students.

“Richardson High School and RISD learned of the Texarkana Police Department investigation on Tuesday afternoon and Mr. Delezen was immediately placed on leave by RISD and removed from Richardson High School pending formal next steps,” a district official told WFAA in a statement. “This news is certainly troubling and disappointing, and we are cooperating with the investigation to the fullest extent possible.”

“Jason Delezen was an art teacher in TISD from August 2016 to June 2019. During his time at TISD, there were no reported incidents. TISD Police Department is investigating the alleged incident. No additional information is available,” said Todd Marshall, director of communications and marketing, speaking to The Dallas Express.

“Student safety is our number priority, and we encourage all students to report concerns they have to a trusted adult,” Marshall told The Dallas Express.

The Dallas Express has repeatedly reached out to Richardson Independent School District for comment, but has not received a response.
