A Denton woman alleges her son was sexually assaulted in the restroom of a Chilis, CBS reported.
The mother, who asked CBS not to identify her, recounted the conversation she had with her son after he returned from the restroom that alerted her to the alleged assault.
“I asked him, ‘What took you so long?’ and he’s like, ‘Well I was talking to the man,’ ‘What do you mean you were talking to a man?’ and he’s like, ‘The man that helped me,'” the unidentified woman said to CBS.
“I was like, ‘What do you mean he helped you go to the bathroom?’ he was like, ‘Well he helped me pull my pants down, he helped me go to the bathroom, he helped me pull my pants back up.’ And that’s when I was like, ‘Oh my gosh,’ and I had asked him, ‘Did he touch you?’ and he was like, ‘Well yeah mom, that’s how you help someone go to the bathroom,’ and that’s when my heart dropped.”
The woman said she immediately contacted police following this conversation.
The Denton Police Department (DPD) told CBS that they could not give any more information because it was an ongoing investigation of a sensitive nature. Police said that they were looking for the man in question, but the woman said her son’s description of the sexual assault perpetrator was vague.
The restaurant does not have surveillance cameras, police said, but that they are looking at footage from the surrounding area to try and identify the perpetrator of the alleged sexual assault.
The distraught mother wants to see the perpetrator brought to justice.
“I want this guy found,” she said, “because if he’s willing to do it in a busy Chili’s that at any moment someone could walk in that bathroom, he has he done it before.”
Chili’s released a statement about the incident to CBS.
“We’re taking this reported incident seriously, and we have been cooperating with police in their investigation as we work to understand more about what happened,” the statement read.
The restaurant chain noted that it does not believe the alleged sexual assault perpetrator was a Chili’s employee.
Police ask anyone who was at the Chili’s in Denton near I-35E and Loop 288 on the evening of October 21 and may have information regarding this alleged incident to contact the DPD at 940-349-8181.
