A man died from his injuries on Wednesday after he was set on fire during a domestic violence altercation last month, according to the Arlington Police Department.

Twenty-four-year-old Breana Johnson’s aggravated assault charge will now be upgraded to murder.

Around 9 p.m. on July 18, officers arrived at a gas station on the 1900 block of East Mayfield after receiving several 911 calls reporting that a man was on fire. Bystanders extinguished the flames before first responders arrived on the scene.

The victim, 25-year-old Ricky Doyle, had burns over most of his body. He was taken to a hospital in Collin County in critical condition.

Investigators stated that witnesses heard the couple arguing, and Johnson had allegedly said, “I’m going to kill you.”

A store employee also informed authorities that the woman entered and purchased $0.50 worth of fuel before leaving. Another witness reported that they saw the woman pour gasoline into the backseat of the Jeep where Doyle was seated. The witness claimed the woman then ignited the gasoline.

Doyle got out of the car on fire. Johnson then allegedly got back in the car and left the scene, according to the police.

According to the arresting document, the victim’s sister had contacted 911 earlier in the evening, around 8:45 p.m., to report that the woman was hitting her brother.

Security footage from the gas station appeared to confirm witness statements.

On July 19, an arrest warrant for Johnson was issued, and on the following day, she was brought into custody.

She is currently being held in the Tarrant County jail on a $50,000 bail. It is unclear whether she has retained a lawyer.
