A 28-year-old man from North Richland Hills is facing a murder charge for allegedly stabbing his wife’s father repeatedly with a machete around the early hours of October 11, according to Bedford police.

The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Anthony Paul Chaffin, and his father-in-law, 41-year-old Jason Enos, reportedly got into an argument outside an apartment complex in the 1500 block of Shady Lane. The two men were said to be arguing about a family issue when the dispute took a violent turn.

Chaffin had deliberately crashed his car into Enos’ vehicle several times before getting out and stabbing him repeatedly with a machete, according to the search warrant affidavit obtained by NBC 5 News.

Bedford police officers responded to the scene at about 12:15 a.m, where they found Enos with multiple stab wounds. First responders transported the 41-year-old to Medical City Hospital in North Richland Hills, where he died.

Chaffin was out of his car and in the parking lot when the officers arrived. The 28-year-old allegedly told responding officers to either shoot him or kill him. The officers eventually shot him with a stun gun and took him into custody.

During the investigation, a fellow resident of the apartment complex told the police that there had been issues between the two men for several weeks.

She added that these issues were related to Chaffin being accused of cheating on his wife.

During Chaffin’s interrogation with the police, the suspect told investigators that he remembered Enos blocking him in and that he had yelled at him. However, the suspect maintained that he could not remember anything between being blocked in and the yelling.

Authorities said the case is still an ongoing investigation. It was not stated whether or not Chaffin had an attorney. He is currently being held on a bond of $200,000 at the Tarrant County jail.
