In a positive update for Texans tired of those pesky package thieves, the Colleyville Police Department has announced the arrest of a 42-year-old woman accused of stealing dozens of deliveries from porches and mailboxes across the city.
Danielle Copeland, a woman from Hurst, Texas, was taken into custody on Tuesday, January 6, following an investigation that ran from November to December of last year. During that period, multiple homeowners across Dallas-Fort Worth reported missing packages, prompting Colleyville detectives to review surveillance footage from a network of doorbell cameras.
The suspect, initially described as a white or Hispanic female with a heavy build and a distinctive gait, appeared in videos provided to the public by the department, wearing a variety of different disguises during her package-stealing spree.
Colleyville detectives were allegedly aided by multiple eyewitness accounts from the woman and by neighboring police departments, including the Hurst Police Department and the Keller Police Department. They eventually identified Copeland as the suspect and quickly issued a warrant, leading to her arrest.
A search of the loaner car Copeland was driving at the time of her arrest uncovered approximately 50 items believed to be stolen, though shipping labels had allegedly been removed, complicating efforts to identify owners and return their stolen property.
Police have further noted that Copeland is believed to have stolen packages in surrounding cities, and they are coordinating with those departments to match recovered property to additional victims. Some reports suggest the total number of stolen items could be higher, with up to 80 items potentially linked to thefts across 10 or more areas around DFW.
Colleyville PD is still seeking additional victims to come forward, particularly those whose packages may have been stolen between December 18, 2025, and January 6, 2026. Anyone with information – or additional video footage of the suspect or her vehicle – has been encouraged to contact Detective Watson at 817-503-1266 or via email at [email protected].
The arrest highlights the growing problem of “porch piracy” across DFW; many such cases have been caught on ring cams and previously called out in reports by DX.
Residents on the Ring Neighborhood app have increasingly flagged a surge in porch thefts across Dallas, with some urging their neighbors to use Amazon lockers or P.O. boxes exclusively for high-priced packages they anticipate being delivered.
