A 36-year-old woman has been charged with capital murder after Fort Worth Police reported that she placed a baby in a suitcase and abandoned the infant in a dumpster at an apartment complex.
Courtney Minor was arrested Monday and charged with capital murder of a person under 10 years old and abuse of a corpse without legal authority, according to jail records. She is being held on bonds totaling $550,000. It remains unclear whether Minor has obtained an attorney.
On July 20, the Fort Worth Police Department’s Crimes Against Children Unit began investigating the death of an infant found in a dumpster at the La Hacienda Apartments, located at 4720 Norma Street. At the time, no arrests had been made.
Police said Minor was seen rolling a suitcase to the dumpster and “ultimately confessed to the baby being alive at birth and that she did put the suitcase, with the baby inside, in the dumpster,” per NBC 5 DFW.
Authorities have not confirmed whether the infant was alive when placed in the suitcase, and the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to release the infant’s cause of death.
The relationship between Minor and the child has not been disclosed, and police have shared no additional details as the investigation continues.
