A driver fleeing the scene of a minor automobile crash on Thursday evening was killed in a second collision moments later, the Dallas Police Department reported.

Police responded to a report of a vehicle collision at Ann Arbor Avenue and Frio Drive at about 10:15 p.m., a DPD spokesperson told The Dallas Express. The driver of a van was heading east on Mentor Avenue when he crashed into another vehicle at the intersection of East Frio Drive in South Oak Cliff.

The driver of the van, who police have not identified, was killed in the crash. Police initially stated that two people in the second vehicle were critically injured but later updated that statement, saying instead that one person suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

“The preliminary investigation determined a male driver in a van was involved in a minor accident at Ann Arbor Avenue and Frio Drive,” Jennifer Pryor, a public information officer for DPD, said in an email. “The male driver left the scene, ran a stop sign, and crashed into a truck at Mentor Ave and Frio Dr.”

The location of the second crash was about two blocks away from the scene of the first collision. No injuries were reported in the aftermath of the first crash.

Video footage taken at the scene of the second crash by photojournalists with Fox West Texas shows a large white van turned on its side and wedged against a fence in a resident’s yard. The vehicle’s front windshield was shattered, and the front of the van was bashed in, while the top of the van appeared dented.
