A man was killed by a hit-and-run driver while walking along a Dallas highway just before midnight on Monday, police said.

Authorities explained that a body was found on the westbound service road of Interstate 635 near the Dallas North Tollway.

The man was allegedly hit by a dark-colored SUV that never stopped to help, the police claimed.

After this, however, the man was then hit by a second vehicle. The driver of that vehicle stopped and called 9-1-1.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene and pronounced the man dead, the police explained. The service road was closed by law enforcement officers, but the main lanes were not affected.

It is not immediately clear if anyone saw the incident occur, but police are checking nearby businesses for video footage of the incident. Police hope that video evidence will help identify the suspect or their vehicle.

The identity of the victim has not yet been released at this time.

Dallas law enforcement officials told The Dallas Express that the investigation is still ongoing.
