It has only been a week since police arrested a teenager in the shooting death of a high school student in Royse City, as previously reported by The Dallas Express.
Now, a senior from Justin F. Kimball High School was reportedly killed following an altercation outside a gas station in Dallas on Friday night.
The Dallas Police Department reported that at just before 11 p.m., officers were called to the 8000 block of S. Polk Street in response to a shooting at a Love’s Gas Station, per NBC 5 DFW.
A large gathering was reportedly taking place outside the gas station, across from John Kincaide Stadium, when a group of individuals began trailing 17-year-old David Washington, leading to a physical altercation.
During the altercation, an unidentified individual shot Washington.
Dallas Fire-Rescue paramedics promptly transported the teenager to a local hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.
This is an ongoing investigation, and the Dallas Police Department asks anyone with information regarding this crime to contact Detective Kramer at 214-671-3608 or [email protected].
As of September 6, the City of Dallas Crime Analytics dashboard reported 20 incidents of negligent manslaughter this year, a significant increase from the nine reports during the same period in 2023.
The Dallas Police Department has long been dealing with a persistent shortage of police officers, which has had a detrimental impact on the City’s safety. This issue is exacerbated by the department’s budget this fiscal year, which falls significantly below that of other high-crime cities like Chicago, New York City, and Los Angeles. As a result, the department struggles to effectively address the high rates of crime in the City and the slow police response times.
