Friday morning, the Southlake Police Department was kept busy with a wrong-way driver of a gold minivan, who hit multiple vehicles, crashed, and then took a rifle and began shooting.
“He’s got a gun! He’s got a gun!” someone yelled as shots rang out, reported Fox 4 KDFW.
The driver has been identified as Sean Wallace Jordan, age 19, of Colleyville.
Police stated that they received a call about an accident in front of Central Market, between Carroll and Central avenues, around 9:30 a.m. on November 22, per Fox.
According to an update posted on Facebook from Southlake Police Chief Ashleigh Casey, “Preliminary information indicates that as the first responding Southlake officer arrived on the crash scene, the wrong way driver retrieved a rifle from his vehicle and began firing the weapon in the direction of another driver and the officer.”
“The officer returned fire, discharging his duty weapon in defense of the other driver and himself. Thankfully, neither the officer nor the other driver was injured during the exchange. The suspect, who was also not injured, was immediately taken into custody by officers on the scene,” the post continued.
According to police, Jordan is currently being held on charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
The investigation is ongoing and other charges may be pending.
“I am grateful for the quick response and actions of our officers today to protect the community and for our other law enforcement partners in the area who provided their assistance with this incident,” stated Chief Casey in her report.
