Dallas police arrested six people and seized seven firearms after officers witnessed a group openly carrying weapons and firing them on New Year’s Eve, according to a January 6 press release by the DPD Beat.
The incident occurred around 10:35 p.m. on December 31 in the 3300 block of Southern Oaks.
Three of the recovered weapons were reported stolen, and one handgun had a machine-gun conversion device attached.
South Central CRT officers were conducting surveillance when they observed 12 to 15 individuals carrying handguns and rifles in an apartment complex. A 911 call soon reported the same group walking through the area with firearms.
Officers then heard rapid gunfire near the complex entrance and saw the individuals actively shooting. Uniformed CRT officers responded immediately, leading to a foot pursuit.
Police recovered five handguns and two rifles during the investigation. Officers also seized approximately 32.9 grams of marijuana from those arrested.
No injuries were reported in connection with the shooting incident.
Two of the suspects are documented gang members, according to investigators. The arrested individuals face multiple charges, including discharge of a firearm in certain municipalities, evading arrest, and riot participation.
Those arrested include two 16-year-old juveniles, 18-year-old Marcus Kyle, 19-year-old Daveon Gardener, 17-year-old Ashton Hill, and 19-year-old Trevon Bell. Additional charges for some suspects include drug possession and prohibited weapon violations.
