A 15-year-old Lone Star High School student was stabbed by a stranger while walking his dog in a Frisco neighborhood Sunday evening, police said.

Frisco police responded to a reported stabbing around 8:45 p.m. in the 1500 block of Plum Valley Lane in the Grayhawk neighborhood. The victim, Ankur Dahr, a student at Lone Star High School, was treated at a hospital for a gash to his hand and later released. The suspect, described as a young male, possibly high school-aged or a young adult, remains at large as of August 20, according to police.

Ankur told CBS News Texas that his nightly dog walk is a routine he enjoys, listening to music through earbuds.

“For me, I enjoy it. I just put my earbuds in and listen to some music, and it’s just a good exercise,” he said.

On Sunday, a stranger approached him near his home, saying, “Yo, I think you look familiar.”

Ankur responded, “Oh, really?” and shared his name, noting the stranger mentioned attending Lone Star High School.

Moments later, as captured by a neighbor’s Ring camera, the suspect walked ahead, then suddenly turned, ran at Ankur, and stabbed him with what appeared to be a pocketknife.

“And then he came like a little in front of me, then randomly turned around, came up and stabbed me and just ran away,” Ankur said, per Fox 4 KDFW. “After he stabbed me, I just ran straight to my house with the dog.”

Ankur’s father, Adesh Dahr, described the panic as his son returned home, saying, “I saw blood gushing out of his arm, so I was kind of numb to what happened. He said ‘Someone stabbed me,’ and I ran out and didn’t see anyone,” WFAA reported.

“The fortunate thing is he was just two houses down from where we live,” Adesh said. “If it would have been farther, it would have been disastrous.”

The family rushed Ankur to a hospital, where he received 19 stitches.

When asked if he had concerns about allowing his son to walk around the neighborhood, Adesh told Fox 4, “Yeah, because we don’t know if the suspect will come again. It’s an open-ended question for a lot of people in the neighborhood.”

Ankur reflected, “I was just in the wrong place at the wrong time,” and cautioned, “Yeah like just be careful. You know anything can happen. It doesn’t matter where you live.”

The family noted recent vandalism and other reported attacks in the Grayhawk neighborhood, though police have not confirmed any connection to this incident.

Frisco police are working with multiple agencies, but have not identified or apprehended the suspect. They urge anyone with information to contact the non-emergency line at 972-292-6010 or submit a tip by texting FRISCOPD and the tip to 847411. The investigation remains active.
