A former Texas police officer was sentenced to 20 years in federal prison for sexually assaulting two teenage boys, U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Texas Chad E. Meacham announced.
Delia Ruiz with the Friona Police Department pleaded guilty to enticement of a minor in January.
According to court documents, she admitted to having sexual intercourse with a 16-year-old on multiple occasions. The sexual relationship began in the fall of 2020 and continued through the spring of 2021. The boy victim was identified in court documents as John Doe 2.
Ruiz admitted that she met a 15-year-old –- identified as John Doe 1 in court documents –- at John Doe 2’s home. She then began having sexual intercourse with him in the spring of 2021.
Ruiz acknowledged that she sent the 15-year-old flirtatious messages and sent him sexually explicit photos and videos of herself. She then arranged to meet him in a church parking lot for sex in her car on at least three occasions. The 31-year-old officer said she told the boy not to tell anyone about what transpired between them.
Ruiz was arrested in October 2021, after which the Friona Police Department fired her. She was sentenced on June 1 by U.S. District Judge Matthew J. Kacsmaryk.
The investigation was a collaboration between the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s Dallas Field Office – Lubbock Resident Agency, the Amarillo Police Department, and the Texas Rangers, with the cooperation of the Friona Police Department.
