The incident happened at Arlington Heights High School, located at 4501 West Freeway, shortly after 8:15 a.m. on Friday.
Fort Worth police dispatched officers to the campus after receiving reports that someone may have fired shots inside the school. The reports prompted a large police response while the district locked down the campus.
Officers attributed the sounds to fireworks that a student or students allegedly set off inside a school bathroom.
Police found no evidence of a shooting and confirmed that no active threat remained on campus. Officers lifted the lockdown after tracing the sounds to the fireworks.
School resource officers, neighborhood patrol officers and additional Fort Worth police officers responded to the campus as a precaution.
Fort Worth officials said school administrators will review surveillance footage from inside the school to identify the student or students responsible for setting off the fireworks.
Fort Worth ISD officials said the student responsible will face “steep consequences,” although authorities had not released details about possible disciplinary action or criminal charges.
