A Wednesday morning crash in Irving is now being investigated as a possible intoxication manslaughter case, according to the Irving Police Department.

The fatal crash happened on State Highway 183 East near Carl Road during the early morning commute, causing the highway to be shut down at O’Connor and forcing some drivers to find an alternate route.

Irving police reported that the victim’s car had broken down on the freeway, and as he was standing outside a second car at the scene, he was struck by a third vehicle. The driver of the third car is suspected of drunk driving and was taken into custody at the scene, according to police.

The identities of the victim and the suspect have not been released.
