In a tragic incident that unfolded during the early hours of Saturday morning, Cleburne police arrived at the scene of a suspected homicide.

The incident occurred at approximately 2 a.m. on May 27 in the 300 block of Gatrix Avenue.

Officers were called to the scene after area residents dialed emergency services after hearing gunshots.

When officers arrived at the scene, they discovered the lifeless body of an elderly woman at the residence.

According to police, one caller who had reported the crime then confessed to shooting his wife.

Police identified the victim as 82-year-old Flora Walker.

Following an autopsy, Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office concluded that Walker had sustained multiple gunshot wounds.

The man responsible for the shooting was found at the scene with a self-inflicted gunshot wound, police said. Authorities rendered aid and transported him to Harris Methodist Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

Officials did not disclose the man’s identity, but investigators were working diligently to unravel the circumstances surrounding the shooting. Cleburne Police Department does not yet have a motive.

The incident served as a somber reminder that issues surrounding domestic violence and mental health within society must be addressed.

The Dallas Express reached out to the Cleburne Police Department for additional information and details regarding the incident but did not receive a response by the time of publication.

Violent crime numbers continue to climb in the nearby City of Dallas as the Dallas Police Department faces staffing issues.

There were 126 homicides reported in the City from the beginning of the year to May 1, two more than that time frame in 2022, according to the Dallas Police Department.
