Duncanville police have arrested a 58-year-old man in connection with a road rage shooting on Interstate 20 last month that left a driver wounded in the face.

Reo Bowman Jr. was taken into custody on Tuesday, August 18, after detectives and members of the Duncanville SWAT team executed a search warrant, according to the Duncanville Police Department.

Bowman faces two counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.

Driver Wounded in I-20 Shooting

The shooting happened July 28 at about 7:55 p.m. in the 600 block of East Interstate 20.

Police said the victims had been involved in a road rage incident with the driver of a Kia sedan. The suspect allegedly fired one shot at their vehicle before fleeing westbound on the highway.

Two people were inside the vehicle.

The driver was struck by the gunfire and suffered a gunshot wound to the face. She was taken to Central Methodist Hospital for treatment and was later released. Her injuries were considered non-life-threatening.

The passenger was not injured.

Police have not released the identities of the two people who were in the vehicle.

Flock Cameras Help Investigators

Duncanville police detectives immediately began investigating the shooting, conducting witness interviews and collecting evidence. Investigators also used Flock automated license plate reader cameras to identify and follow up on multiple leads, police said.

The investigation ultimately led detectives to identify Bowman as the alleged shooter.

The use of Flock cameras to read and record the license plates of ordinary citizens going about their day has caused concern about privacy rights and the potential for mass surveillance. Hood County officials recently shut down the county’s network of Flock cameras over such concerns, The Dallas Express reported.

However, many law enforcement agencies have defended the use of the technology as an aid to locating missing people, recovering stolen automobiles, and identifying suspects.

Police Warn Against Road Rage

Duncanville police said road rage incidents can put other motorists and members of the community at serious risk.

“Road rage incidents and other acts of violence on our roadways place innocent motorists and members of our community at significant risk,” police said in a statement. “Those who engage in these senseless acts of violence in Duncanville will be held accountable.”

Police also thanked the community for its cooperation and said the department remains committed to investigating violent crimes and holding those responsible accountable.

The arrest comes just days after Fort Worth police arrested a man for the fatal road rage shooting of a 34-year-old woman traveling along the same roadway, Interstate 20, on August 13. Eyewitness accounts and dashboard camera video inside a witness’s vehicle helped police identify the alleged shooter, whom police arrested hours later. The suspect in that case, Patrick Lapaul Lawrence, 37, has been charged with murder, The Dallas Express reported.
