The Metroplex Civic & Business Association has released its monthly crime data comparison of Downtown Dallas and Downtown Fort Worth.
“The Metroplex Civic & Business Association (MCBA) is a nonpartisan, non-profit business organization with a mission to increase charitable and civic engagement among companies and their employees by connecting local businesses with great charities. We help DFW businesses educate, empower, and mobilize their employee base to step up and make a difference in their communities, ensuring that the region continues to thrive,” the MCBA website states.
“In August ’24, Downtown Dallas’ Crime Score was 6x higher than Downtown Ft. Worth,” the MCBA data infographic states.
The data shows that Downtown Dallas had 69 assault offenses compared to Downtown Fort Worth’s 12 that month. It also had 34 motor vehicle thefts compared to Downtown Fort Worth’s four.
Data also shows that Downtown Dallas had six robberies while Fort Worth’s city center clocked zero for the month.
As previously reported by The Dallas Express, Downtown Dallas regularly outpaces Fort Worth’s city center in terms of criminal activity.
MCBA CEO Louis Darrouzet has in the past criticized the Dallas Police Department’s officer shortage and Dallas County District Attorney John Creuzot for the prevalence of criminal behavior in the Central Business District.
“[Y]ou have a district attorney that is not prosecuting a lot of the arrests that are made. … We don’t want our jails filled just to do it, but as a police officer, if you bring someone in and they’re getting released before you even finish your paperwork, what are you doing?” Darrouzet previously told DX.
“We forget that police are just citizens too. If we make it too hard to be a police officer, people will just stop being police officers. No one will do it if we don’t pay enough or it’s too difficult to do. If they feel unsupported, they’ll just choose another career,” Darrouzet said.
