Two 20-year-old men face aggravated assault charges after a predawn shootout Friday in a DeSoto apartment complex parking lot that left more than 30 shell casings scattered across the property.
Despite the intense gunfire exchange, no one was injured in the incident that began when two suspects allegedly opened fire on a victim who then returned fire in self-defense, according to DeSoto police.
The department’s ShotSpotter gunfire detection system first alerted officers to the shooting around 12:55 a.m. on October 17 at the East Pleasant Run Road apartment complex. Multiple 911 callers also reported hearing gunshots and seeing people in the parking lot.
Officers arrived within three minutes and found the victim, an adult male whose identity has not been released. He told police he was sitting on the stairs outside his apartment when Noah Douglas Moran, 20, of Glenn Heights, and Jashaun Lamonte Wofford, 20, of Waxahachie, approached him.
After “exchanging heated words,” both suspects opened fire at the victim, police said. The man retrieved his own firearm and shot back in what officers described as self-defense.
Police detained both suspects at the scene and later arrested them for aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, a second-degree felony.
Detectives searching the apartment where the suspects were found hiding recovered multiple firearms. The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities are asking anyone with information to contact DeSoto Police at (469) 658-3050.
