A “porch pirate” struck this morning in Denton before the sun came up.

A resident in southeast Denton woke to a startling surprise – a man approaching the porch, stealing a package. The home’s Ring doorbell captured the incident in this video.

The man pulled up on his bike at 4:11 a.m. July 28, with a hoodie pulled over his head. He stopped, leaned over, and grabbed a box from the porch. Then, box in hand, he rode back into the darkness.

“He stole my package,” the resident wrote on the Ring app.

The man was wearing a light grey hoodie, black pants, and a black backpack at the time. He was also riding a black bike with three large silver/white spokes on each wheel.

Amy Cunningham, public information liaison for the Denton Police Department, told The Dallas Express she could not find any calls that day regarding “package thefts.” But she said the victim may have filed a report online.

“We urge theft victims to file a report with the Denton Police Department,” Cunningham said.

Residents should report suspicious activity to the department’s non-emergency number, 940-349-8181. In an emergency, they should dial 911.

A Ring camera showed two men approaching a package in Denton last week, but the resident left them a surprise – it was full of days-old cat litter, as The Dallas Express reported at the time. In the same city earlier this month, a doorbell camera captured a man with a knife approaching a home.
